From my workshop set in the heart of the Lincolnshire Fens I design and make hand made contemporary furniture from wood, primarily producing commissioned pieces, both freestanding and fitted, for the home, office or church. I have been awarded the very prestigious craft Guildmark for my work on two occasions. The Guildmark is awarded by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers for furniture that embodies excellence in design, materials, craftsmanship and function. Pictures of my Guildmark Walnut Writing Desk can be seen in my portfolio alongside my other work. My principal aims are to create exceptional original furniture alongside simple functional pieces. I do not sacrifice integrity for modernity, preferring to design and make contemporary furniture using traditional methods. For me the joy is in the organic nature and decorative potential of wood. I prefer to use natural oils and waxes to finish the furniture I make; these enhance and protect the wood yet still allow you to touch the wood (lacquer and varnishes form a skin on the surface). I encourage clients to choose native timbers where possible or imported timbers from reputable sustainable resources. My workshop and Gallery are open to visitors but please do telephone in advance so that I can put the coffee on.
