“I strive to make furniture of a timeless quality designed to show the intrinsic beauty of the timber” Profile I set up my workshop in 1975 after serving a five year apprenticeship as a cabinet maker in my home town of Long Sutton followed by further experience in two Lincoln workshops. At this time I was concentrating on restoring antiques and producing one-off copies of period furniture. This all changed for me in the 1980s; I was made aware of the desecration of the rain forests by the green movement so I stopped purchasing mahogany and other timbers from unsustainable sources and I had grown disillusioned with reproducing furniture designed long ago. This has led me to a more honest and ethical approach to my furniture making. Since 1990 I have made furniture to my own designs, making to commission and producing items which I exhibit for sale in my own gallery or at other galleries and exhibitions throughout the country. |
